BIKE KATRINA 2011

31 Aug

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Irene. To date, the hurricane is responsible for the death of 33 people and recent damage estimates are approximately 7 billion. Rebuilding the Eastern Seaboard will require all-hands on deck. Visit the American Red Cross website for details on how you can help.

Striking within the time frame of Hurricane Katrina’s 6th Anniversary, Hurricane Irene demonstrated the urgent need for every American to be prepared. Disasters: floods, fires, tornadoes, earthquakes and economic depression know no boundaries. The times we live in suggests that individual and community preparedness are critical to a successful response and recovery.

Mitch Wells and The Spanish Moon Music Headquarters of Baton Rouge hosted an April 2011 concert benefit to support Bike Katrina 2011. Because of their amazing encouragement and generosity we were able to once again, for the 3rd time, tour the Gulf Coast on road bikes – advancing our 2 main issues: disaster preparedness and coastal restoration. Our trip was highlighted in our return to Resurrection Catholic School of Pascagoula, Mississippi; we were honored to speak with the entire school. Very grateful for that opportunity, Go Eagles!

My uncle Robert Bolling, Big Wanda and I traveled from Pensacola, Florida back home to New Orleans over the course of five days. It was quite the journey. After overcoming a few barriers we finished safe and strong.
